Dry Bulk Handling

A large bakery wanted to improve throughput in their dry bulk handling system, moving 3 types of flour and sugar from rail cars to mixers. The project was done in stages with automatic weighing and dispensing to mixers done first; followed by improved rail car unloading and bulk storage. The primary consideration was minimizing downtime in an operating facility so most of the installation was done in parallel with the existing system, with the changeover made in stages. An Allen Bradley PLC 5/40 using a Panelview 1400E for operator interface controlled the bulk handling, with 2 PLC 5/40's and a custom operator interface controlling the weighing and mixing process.
